The Kloppmann SB 52 is a P90-style bridge pickup in a "dogear" housing, designed to replicate the P90 pickups of the 1950s.
Inspiration and Tonal Profile: The design is based on the pickups used by influential 1950s musicians such as Scotty Moore, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Muddy Waters, and Hubert Sumlin.
According to Andreas Kloppmann, the tonal characteristics of the SB 52 design include:
Strong harmonics
Driven or pronounced mids
A distinct "cool twang" on the bass strings
Historical Context: This style of 1950s P90 pickup was also used by later rock musicians, including Frank Zappa, Allen Wilson (Canned Heat), and Dave Gilmour (notably with his '56 Les Paul Goldtop), demonstrating the sound's enduring application. The SB 52 bridge pickup aims to reproduce the finesse of these original '50s models.
